A French Animation Studio: Folimage
In this article :
Founded in 1981 by Jacques-Rémy Girerd, Folimage is an animation studio based in Bourg-lès-Valence, in the Drôme region of France. Renowned for the artisanal quality of its productions and its commitment to auteur cinema accessible to all audiences, the company has established itself as a key player in French and European animation.
For over 40 years, Folimage has been developing animated short and feature films, TV series, and children’s content. The studio upholds a demanding approach to animated images, favoring traditional techniques such as hand-drawn animation and stop motion, while also exploring new visual methods.
Critically acclaimed and award-winning works worldwide
Among Folimage’s most iconic films are Raining Cats and Frogs (2003), Mia and the Migoo (2008), A Cat in Paris(2010), and The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales (2017). These works, often praised at international festivals (Annecy, Berlin, César Awards…), showcase the studio’s strong artistic craftsmanship and distinctive visual universe.
Folimage also produced the animated series Ariol, broadcast on various children’s channels, and offers a rich catalog of over 50 works distributed worldwide. The studio is also involved in training new talent through La Poudrière, its animation directing school.
A bold artistic and cultural vision
Beyond production, Folimage positions itself as a space for creation, education, and dissemination. The studio promotes poetic, humanistic, and sensitive storytelling that addresses contemporary issues such as ecology, solidarity, and childhood. It cultivates a strong identity, standing apart from mainstream industry standards, and maintains close ties to both its local roots and the international animation community.
With its dedication to drawing, graphic experimentation, and storytelling, Folimage actively contributes to cultural diversity in the world of animation.
