Still Life of a Unique Gin Bottle
Project Details
Project Context
For this project, we conducted a still life shoot of the Bombay Sapphire Artist Edition bottle. This shoot, designed to both enrich our portfolio and test a video format for our YouTube channel, captured the intricate details of the bottle: its unique label with gilding, hot stamping, and the transparency of the blue glass.
In addition to the photographs, we produced a tutorial video titled “How to Photograph Spirits,” aimed at sharing our approach and shooting and lighting techniques for glass bottles. The video showcases the different steps that led to this result: the video.
Challenges Encountered
-
Highlighting the blue hue of the glass while preserving its transparency and depth.
-
Managing reflections and contrasts on the shiny glass surface without compromising the design details.
-
Creating a cohesive visual between the photography and video to illustrate our work methods on YouTube.
Solutions Provided
-
Carefully Selected Blue Background: a chromatic choice that emphasizes the transparency and unique character of the colored glass.
-
Precise and Directed Lighting: accentuating the curves of the bottle without unwanted reflections.
-
Consistent Video and Photography Production: achieving a homogeneous look between still images and the filmed content for YouTube.
Let’s discuss
Still life photography of spirits requires precise management of reflections and transparency, especially for colored glass bottles. A professional studio packshot ensures optimal highlighting of the hues, textures, and design details. Bottle photography is a technical exercise that demands specific lighting to reveal depth and avoid visual distortions. Additionally, a video tutorial on spirit photography allows for sharing the best shooting and lighting techniques, offering both visual and educational content.
