Whisky Tasting and Ice Carving
Project Details
Client Context
As part of the ongoing brand activation for Hibiki in France, we were commissioned to cover a private whisky tasting event held at Yoshinaga, a high-end sushi restaurant located in Paris. The experience brought together the world of Japanese whisky and the artisanal precision of ice carving, all within an intimate and curated setting.
Our mission was to document the event with images that reflected the brand’s elegance, while capturing the subtle interactions, the sculptor’s precise gestures, and the artistic presentation of the whisky.
Challenges Faced
- Working in a confined, dimly lit space without disrupting the guests’ experience.
- Highlighting the gestures of the ice carving without staging, by capturing the moment with precision.
- Revealing the details of the tasting ritual while respecting the guests’ privacy.
Solutions Provided
- Use of fast lenses and ambient lighting to achieve a natural and discreet look.
- Candid photography: carefully composed shots to capture technical gestures, sculpted ice details, and the whisky’s textures.
- A meticulous selection of the event’s key moments to create a respectful, elegant, and visually coherent narrative.
Let’s discuss
Capturing a tasting event through photo reportage requires a specific expertise, especially in the realms of luxury, whisky, or Japanese gastronomy. Each image must convey the atmosphere of the venue, the details of the products showcased, and the interactions between guests. In the case of a whisky event, candid photography helps highlight precise gestures, the product’s textures, and the refined ambiance. Tasting photography is also an excellent tool to enhance brand communication, particularly in the premium spirits sector, by providing authentic, high-quality visuals that can be reused across social media, press materials, or websites.
